Zur Zeit des Stirb oder Töte

This piece is one of several sketches to transform Heiner Mueller’s piece “Mauser” into a songplay, that will be combined with choreography and stage setting. The highly refined poetry can be deconvolved by musical means as polyphony and repetition, like in the end of this recording, when one of the singers repeats: “Es ist eine Arbeit wie jede andere” (It’s just a job), while she slowly turns 360 degrees with her hands forming a cone at her mouth, so that her voice circles like a floodlight through the hall, a single line that is being repeated, while the other singer continues Mueller’s following lines in a kind of sprechgesang, that is only roughly determined rhythmically and melodically.
